TOLEDO CONVENTION CENTER
Toledo, Spain

2000-2010

  • The urban planners had proposed the construction of a parking silo on a meadow, but Toledo’s City Hall accepted Rafael Moneo’s proposal: to demolish a dilapidated shopping center and parking lot, and use the site to build an ambitious convention center. The project thus demonstrated the ‘reversibility’ of what has been built, which unfortunately is rarely put to action. Within the wall that strictly defines the city’s perimeter is a parking lot for 650 automobiles, an auditorium seating 1000, and all the services required of a convention center,  all this blending perfectly into its surroundings. There is also a terrace-garden accessed through a small square that can be considered an extension of the Plaza de Zocodover
